Working abroad

Do you like this story?

With so many countries and jobs to choose from, there are countless opportunities for you to live and work in another country. There’s no better time in your life to take the plunge and try it than when you’re a student.

Seasonal work

In the summer, touristy areas such as the Costa del Sol are always on the lookout for seasonal staff.  Holiday rep opportunities are very easy to come by – plus you get to have loads of fun too.  The pay’s okay and sometimes includes accommodation! In the winter, ski resorts are always on the lookout for temporary staff. It’s the perfect way for you ski and earn.

Placements

There are lots of work placements you can choose abroad. For example, if you’re studying medicine, why not live and work in a country with a shortage of medics and doctors. Not only does this look amazing on your CV, it also gives you priceless experience of other cultures and insight into what life might be like as a medical professional.

Planning to become a teacher? Then why not spend time finding out exactly what the profession is like and teach abroad? Not only will get to experience life in a different country and the opportunity to learn a new language, you've got something really impressive to tell prospective employers when you graduate.

Studying abroad

With programmes such as ERASMUS, it’s become easier and more popular for students to study abroad during their degrees. The programme involves 31 European nations – so whether you fancy the warmth of Spain or the winter sports of Austria, there’s something to suit your needs. Make sure you ask you tutor for more details.

Volunteering

Students who’ve volunteered and helped communities across the world, these are some of the best people you’ll ever meet in your lives. So, get involved and become one yourself. There are so many different volunteer programmes out there to choose from. If you want to go to Sri Lanka and help rebuild schools – you can. If you want to go to the USA and help run summer camps – you can. You can even volunteer to work with animals. Take a look online to see what’s out there.
